Gateway’s social programme will help you make the most of your time in Malta. Students can take advantage of the varied and inclusive Activity Programme which is built around exciting and cultural engaging activities. We strongly believe that culture and leisure are an important part of learning, and Malta offers many exhilarating and rewarding possibilities both for the young as well as for the mature. These activities give you a chance to meet fellow students and make new friends while practising your English.
While on a school-organised activity, students are accompanied by the school’s group leader and a fully licensed guide when visiting historical places such as Valletta (Malta’s capital city). Return transport is also organised by the school.
Here are some examples of Gateway’s social programme:
Valletta Tour (Half Day Tour) - A guided tour around Malta’s Capital City, Valletta. Built by the Knight’s of Malta, Valletta’s unique cultural and historical offerings have made it one of the world’s favourite attractions. We will watch the Malta Experience Audiovisual Spectacular and visit other places of interest such as the Upper Barrakka Gardens, St. James Cavalier (Malta’s Arts and Creativity Centre) and St. Paul’s Shipwreck Church.
Luzzu Night Harbour Cruise - Travelling on a traditional Maltese Luzzu, we will visit the various creeks of the Grand Harbour, the largest natural harbour in the Mediterranean. You will see the bastions of Valletta lit up in all their splendour. The trip lasts around two hours and is accompanied by continuous live commentary.
The popular Night Beach BBQ - We will travel to one of Malta’s sandy beaches where you will be able to swim at dusk, participate in beach games and then enjoy a barbeque. This will be a great opportunity to make new friends.
Gozo & Comino in One Day (Full Day trip) - An exciting thirty minute ride on a speed boat from Spinola Bay, St. Julian’s to the sister island of Gozo. While in Gozo, we will visit the Citadella (Gozo’s old fortified capital), Calypso Cave and the Azure Window and Inland Sea with breathtaking views of Gozo’s cliffs. We then take the boat to Comino where we will spend the afternoon enjoying the cool and crystal clear waters of the famed Blue Lagoon. On the way back to Malta we will also visit various caves. An adventure not to be missed!
Mdina by Night - We will travel to the city of Mdina (Malta’s old capital city), which while being a beautiful city during the day, becomes a mysterious and chilling place at night. We will walk around the city which has been the setting for both times of peace and times of war and visit the Mdina Dungeons. You can then enjoy the breathtaking views from the bastions. To finish off the night, we will stop at one of the many cafés where you may try one of the many mouth-watering pastries on offer.
Trip to Golden Bay / Mellieha Bay / Paradise Bay - We will travel to one of the famous beaches in the North of the island where you will enjoy swimming and sunbathing. Why not try one of the exhilarating water sports that the lidos have to offer.

“Splash n’ Fun” Amusement Park - We will travel to Malta’s largest fun park with water slides, large swimming pools, wave pools, games arcades etc. Animal lovers are also given the opportunity to visit the Mediterraneo Marine Park within the Splash and Fun Park to watch the popular Dolphin and Sea Lion shows.
Festa Night - We will travel to a traditional Maltese Festa (The location depends on the date) where you will be able to see band marches, fireworks and the beautifully decorated church and statue dedicated to the town’s patron saint.

Marsaxlokk Fishing Village & Blue Grotto Beach (Full Day Trip) - We will travel to the fishing village of Marsaxlokk for the traditional Sunday market where a variety of local goods and souvenirs are on offer. Afterwards, we will journey to Wied iz-Zurrieq - the most popular rocky beach in the south of the island where you can also take a boat trip to the Blue Grotto.
